Our Story
- Often the distrust of people or the fear of people knowing "your business" keeps people from seeking the support they need. In addition, not knowing where to go or who to turn to for support, and wondering if your personal "business" will be kept confidential, is a deterrent to seeking help. Many people are coping with a variety of stressful situations as they live their daily lives. Life has so many challenges and uncertainties. As a result, we feel anxious, depressed, angry and afraid. Not knowing how to handle the many emotions we may feel can lead to isolation, stressful relationships within our families, work environments and communities. These stressful emotions lead to fractured families, loss of employment, crime, violence and suicide. Sometimes it's all we can do to keep from going "stock-raving mad." Generations Family Services, Inc. (GFS) wants to be your 'safe haven' or 'bridge over troubled waters.'
- GFS was established in July, 2017 in response to the unrest and uncertainties of our society. With the constant threat of diminished health care benefits to no health care at all, Patricia L. Thompson, LCSW-C, Founder and Executive Director, felt compelled to establish a place where people could come and get the support they need in these trying times. The threat of war, the unstable economic situation, the decline in school performance for our children, the lack of safe and affordable housing, issues with securing employment and the rising crime rate has significantly impacted families and communities to the point that fewer people are feeling safe. In addition, what we can expect tomorrow becomes increasingly uncertain. There is an even greater divide between the "haves and the have nots."
- Ms. Thompson believes that it is not enough to complain, but to find a way to be a part of the solution. For 'without a vision we perish.' GFS is one place that people in need of support can turn in these troubled times so that they might have hope and not feel tempted to resort to unhealthy options to survive.
